Didion by Wasser

In the mid-60s, Julian Wasser moved to Los Angeles as a contract photographer for Time, Life and Fortune magazines. In 1968, Time assigned him to go to the home of Joan Didion after the release of her book Slouching Towards Bethlehem. 

He shot Joan Didion at her rented house on Franklin Ave. in Hollywood.

They started the shoot inside the house, and then moved outside where Wasser posed Didion with her recently acquired yellow Corvette Stingray.

These images became the most famous portraits of the writer.

Didion by Wasser is the current exhibition at Danziger gallery in New York.

Timm Rautert, No Photographing

Dans les années 70, le photographe allemand Timm Rautert se rend dans une communauté Hutterite d'Alberta au Canada.

Si se faire prendre en photo est un péché pour la communauté, après plusieurs discussions, Timm se voit tout de même autorisé à prendre quelques clichés.

Je n'arrive pas à savoir si l'exercice est facile,

s'il demande peut-être seulement un peu d'entrainement.

S'intéresser aux détails, trouver la petite chose à laquelle personne ne prêtera attention.

Il ne s'agit pas de voir le beau dans tout, mais de donner sa chance à n'importe quoi.

Peut-être le plus bel exercice pour apprécier chaque chose qui nous entoure.

Et à cet exercice, le photographe flamand Bert Danckaert semble briller.

The bizarre cityscapes of Bert Danckaert deal with the same paradox of abstractive simplicity and a complexity of meaning and metaphor. Danckaerts still lives breathe a superficial flavour, a strangeness that is found in the familiar. Coincidental installations of sidewalks, walls and street furniture refer more to minimalist art than to conventions of street photography. In these absurd scenarios a recognizable, all too banal reality appears stage-set, props and trompe-l’oeil included, while the actors are absent.
