zagreb, again

in the streets of gornji grad, the upper town of zagreb
and ivan mestrovic atelijer (former home and studio)

- the woman by the sea, 1926
my favorite

zagreb | tip top

on my first evening in zagreb, i had dinner at tip top,
an old taverne where the poet tin ujevic was a regular (there's a big portrait of him on one of the walls), serving croatian dishes.
the menu was so long that i chose tuna steak and homemade gnocchis, randomly
and that's was so good - and copious !

zagreb | dolac market, ii

pretty bad pictures taken secretly with my iphone
i felt like the only tourist inside the covered dolac market
everyone was gazing at me
i even didn't dare to take a photo of the cheese stands
the old women, leaning on their elbows behind their stands, were looking at me with a weird look !

zagreb | dolac market

called the zagreb's belly, dolac market is the meeting place for locals.
under the red umbrellas, you can find fresh products from the region.
in the covered area, you can find meat, bread, cheese...
(i'll post about it on another post)

zagreb | mirogoj cemetery

located on top of the old town (gornji grad),
mirogoj cemetery is the croatian père lachaise.
hermann bollé, the austrian architect who designed the cemetery with its pavillion and arcades in 1879, wanted to create a "town of the dead",
a resting place for some of the most famous croatian people
(artists and politicians)
and hundreds of croatian citizens,
gathering all religious and irreligious graves.
